LEWISTON, Maine —A fire investigator concluded that improper disposal of smoking materials caused a fire in a basement on 15 Dawn Ave. in Lewiston on Sunday. The fire was contained to the basement, Fournier said. The home is not livable from plumbing and electrical problems from the fire and the six people who resided there are staying with neighbors. Snowy conditions slowed the response, with firefighters dragging hoses through an unshoveled driveway to get to the basement, Fournier said.
