The Lewiston Firefighters, incorporated as IAFF Local 785 on March 27th, 1944 and have represented the firefighters of Maine's second largest city since then. We are proud members of the International Association of Firefighters, and the Professional Firefighters of Maine.
The population of Lewiston, an industrial/service center, located in South-Central Maine is approx. 42,000 and a total day time population of over 100,000 with an area of 35.2 square miles, the City is protected by a Central Station (located at 2 College Street - also houses administration offices) and 3 sub-stations. Our association consists of, and represents all levels of the department, including the fire inspector division - up to and including the Administrative Management level. The Fire Department is staffed with 79 full-time personnel.
Local 785 is an active community member and supports numerous civic organizations and sports teams, through our Community Benefit Fund. The department is also an active participant in fund raising for the MDA, through our annual MDA Fill-A-Boot Campaign.
